Personal Development & Empowerment in Comic Form!

A form of art therapy’: Rochester teens use AI to make comics about themselves

We facilitate workshops that guide participants in 1) crafting individual stories, 2) visually bringing their characters to life, 3) collaboratively weaving a story together, and 4) engaging in a discussion to foster team unity.

Workshop participants benefit from:

  • Cultivating creative proficiency in visual storytelling and character development.
  • Harnessing the power of AI to enhance their creative capabilities.
  • Fostering personal and professional growth, building confidence, critical thinking, and resiliency.

“It’s kind of cool, at first I was very nervous because I didn’t really want to talk about the situation…but then I was like, ‘If I let it out it’ll be — it’ll help.” – Kamari

“Everything’s at a distance, almost like art therapy. Everyone leaves with a knowledge of AI, what it is, and how to use it. And soon after there’s a comic book!” – Chris Cooley

I really based my story really about myself and I was being true to it. It [the workshop] really made me learn about myself from a different perspective.” – Jonathan

Below is an example of a team comic designed by teenagers through our partnership with the Digital Media Learning Lab (directed by Jeff Bosic) at the Rochester Central Library. The participants ranged from 12 to 16 years old and went through Levels 1 through 3 of our Training program over the course of 2 workshops.
